humble bundle happy hour? Unhappy malware

Filed under: Antibargain,Geeky goodness — Sagacious Himself @ 6:02 pm

humble bundle employs GameSessions DRM for its “happy” hour, the exact opposite of what we have come to expect from the Humble Bundle experience.

whilst the DRM ensures publishers are happy to let us supply gamers with their latest and greatest games for free.

Take a moment to flood-ask them about their evil drm then submit these malware samples to helpers like avast.

Keep an eye out for “special offers” inside the game.  This smacks of the “open” candy malware fiasco.

overlays will appear during the trial

During the trial, we use in-game messaging to show hints and tips to help you get the most out of the game, as well as the chance to provide feedback [which break screen capture]

GameSessions is less than forthcoming about how this strong drm works, at what non-monetary cost to the user, or the sketchy malware seeming inclusions in trials.  Beware: GameSessions uses blink links as affiliate URLs [to humble bundle].  Be sure to wipe cookies prior to HB purchase.  Death to affiliate urls.

11 bit studios malware? thanks humble bundle?

Humble Bundle did not sell the malware version of 11 bit studios games. Knowing they push malware I won’t be donating again if Humble Bundle features their products in a bundle.

—–

Oh how I love “privacy” policies which describe the minutiae of privacy-violation and imply other personal abuse.

11 bit studios veryunprivacy policy

11 bit studio malware

“Your first and last names and profile picture are considered “public” on 11 bit studios ” — not constrained to facetards

“and any other information you choose to provide”

What’s left to ‘choose’ to volunteer?

not only “deliver and target advertising” but also for mobile devices

. harvest your phone number
. extract your name from used accounts

privacy rape policy

and additional UNWANTED advertising in a PURCHASED game

. inform users about new products or promotional offers

“If you have provided your e-mail address ”

If?  11bit extracts this from mobile.

here is the confession of the nature of this product I’ll not be using.  I don’t use MALWARE

“This Application is supported via advertising, and collects data to help the Application serve ads. We may work with analytics companies to help us understand how the Application is being used, such as the frequency and duration of usage. We work with advertisers and third party advertising networks, who need to know how you interact with advertising provided in the Application which helps us keep the cost of the Application low.”

Supported by advertising?  No, I spent money for this product.

Pay to be privacy rape?  Nuh uh!

“opt” out continues to be a grand abomination.  But no one would opt in…. yeah, that tells you something doesn’t it?

“Opt-out of all information collection by uninstalling the Application”

Right.  you’ll simply keep all the privacy rape acquired information and all is good?

“We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information”

LIARS!  Unless you mean you’ll keep it from third parties who have not yet purchased the illicit knowledge?

Shame on 11 bit studios

.  Adblocking challenge accepted

remember always play as a 12year old to effect information removal.

“If you have any questions regarding privacy while using the Application, or have questions about our practices, please contact us via email at support@11bitstudios.com.  © 11 bit studios S.A. 2012”

when will pinger TextFree offer voice? API testing in progress?

soon?

api.ocean.corp.pinger.com

their new client touts PUSH

but will their ads be as nefarious as version 1.4.x?  The ad engine attempts to leverage a local install of google maps to extract physical location when access to the GPS hardware is not an option.  why??  bits to collect GPS location if available otherwise networklocation.  why?

I miss Fiddler2.

should we really entrust communications to a company steered by a socialist?

Amazon selling privacy-rape? STOP allowing amazon abuse! Trade not privacy for cash. “discount” kindle is not a bargain and AdMash is more evil

Who is insane enough to “sell” their privacy for $25?

Twenty five WHOLE dollars off a kindle to tolerate malware? *

NO

NO

NOOO

Here’s how it works. AdMash will show you two different screensavers and then ask you to vote for the one you like best.

NEITHER!  I like zero ads.  I see zero ads.  I am certainly not paying to see ads! WTH

adservers are “privacy rape”.  That’s the best turn of phrase I’ve yet seen.

How many of the feckless  hoard will give [waste] their time helping the evil adservers craft eviler ads with Amazon AdMash?

A malware powered kindle ought be ZERO out of pocket cost AND CONTINUE paying the user at the very least for the high privacy loss cost. AND in n-ambiguous terms should explain the actual cost of using such evil software

No statement on privacy assurance?  even on not voting tablets?

Where’s the “I changed my mind here’s twenty five dollars turn off this evil amazon crapware” option?

Amazon giving away “free” software?  That’s incentivising DRM installation.  And a secure platform too.  Why it was minutes before that aviary genocide rio game was cracked, liberated of its drm wrapper.  DRM encourages piracy and amuses crackers.  My android device has few drm teeth not kicked in and those remaining bite nothing.  I sync my life through exchange and tinker with funambol.  I don’t trust ad purveyors with my privacy: I don’t trust google and now I have reason to distrust amazon who has so well served me as a retailer.

[insert SIP call me widget here]

too bad wp hosted blogs are widget hostile.  Let’s have a wp wrapper for sip call widgets!

* Adware is by definition malware

malware-foss contradiction reedemed by fdroid community .. as drm fosters piracy.. or re-engineering.. so does malware-foss foster fixing

Sick of the malware dominated “freeware” section of android market?  Irked by “malware-foss” contradiction?  F-droid to the rescue.  A fine group of programmatically inclined heros edit away malware infecting f/OSS and compile actual-freeware for the educated. Kudos to CiaranG and those who want no spotlight.

Sadly the vast majority of android market users in their gross ignorance WRONGLY tolerate malware.

Sure ads can be easily blocked (root et al) but why trust an intellectually dishonest developer?  What other evil lurks in that black heart?  What other nefarious ends await the use of the malware?  Yes, malware: undesired code that harms the user or abuses his resources [for profit].

.

“But programmers gotta eat”

Yes, they do.  But if eating is unlikely daily perhaps said programmer should ply skills commercially and not futter away hours on a f/OSS project.  You can’t eat a cake you don’t have.  People don’t owe you cake.. nor do you have the right to another’s food. When you have enough food THEN worry about baking a cake.  Let them eat your cake or sell it!  You ought not pillage food from gift recipients.

When you give your cake away it’s irrational to whine that no one bought it.

Beware of cake indian givers!
