Why, Asa, why?

Will firefox 10 be essentially better than ie9?  10 > 9.  Sure, that’s nice.  Crank up the speed perhaps.  Firefox 42, the best browser possible since we have the biggest version number.. microsoft’s ie15, chrome12, and iron11 are so far behind we win forever.

“Himself,” my friends ask, “should we update to firefox 5?”

“nah, wait for the large scale microsoftesque public beta to end then install 5.0.2″

“but it has all that great privacy stuff, Himself”

“fat lot of good that does with ISPs selling you out with fine grained netblocks geo ip mapped and inflicted in dhcp policy*.. until that evil stuff ends there is less privacy.  VPN surfing for now.”

I still hope adblockplus will be available as a stand alone loopback proxy.  Unburdening the fox and opening the field to all the other players without having to maintain multiple versions.

.

* VERY easy for ISPs to offer an opt-out on demand. Send them a paper letter asking to opt-out of geo ip location privacy rape.

Amazon selling privacy-rape? STOP allowing amazon abuse! Trade not privacy for cash. “discount” kindle is not a bargain and AdMash is more evil

Who is insane enough to “sell” their privacy for $25?

Twenty five WHOLE dollars off a kindle to tolerate malware? *

NO

NO

NOOO

Here’s how it works. AdMash will show you two different screensavers and then ask you to vote for the one you like best.

NEITHER!  I like zero ads.  I see zero ads.  I am certainly not paying to see ads! WTH

adservers are “privacy rape”.  That’s the best turn of phrase I’ve yet seen.

How many of the feckless  hoard will give [waste] their time helping the evil adservers craft eviler ads with Amazon AdMash?

A malware powered kindle ought be ZERO out of pocket cost AND CONTINUE paying the user at the very least for the high privacy loss cost. AND in n-ambiguous terms should explain the actual cost of using such evil software

No statement on privacy assurance?  even on not voting tablets?

Where’s the “I changed my mind here’s twenty five dollars turn off this evil amazon crapware” option?

Amazon giving away “free” software?  That’s incentivising DRM installation.  And a secure platform too.  Why it was minutes before that aviary genocide rio game was cracked, liberated of its drm wrapper.  DRM encourages piracy and amuses crackers.  My android device has few drm teeth not kicked in and those remaining bite nothing.  I sync my life through exchange and tinker with funambol.  I don’t trust ad purveyors with my privacy: I don’t trust google and now I have reason to distrust amazon who has so well served me as a retailer.

[insert SIP call me widget here]

too bad wp hosted blogs are widget hostile.  Let’s have a wp wrapper for sip call widgets!

* Adware is by definition malware

hazaa Chromium Iron Fork new first: now with adblock built-in

Adblocking is essential to privacy.  SRware‘s fork of Chromium, is the only way to use the google (evil ad serving empire) open source web browser.  A few bytes closer to ideal:

11.10.2008: Adblocker integrated in Iron

The wish of many users comes true: We integrated an
Adblocker in Iron!

With a filterlist so nearly all online-advertising can be
blocked. A working list can bedownloaded

here
and just has to be copied to the Iron folder (e.g:
C:\Program Files\Iron Fork\). Note: You must first get the
latest version of Iron you can find under “Downloads”.

So Iron is the first Chromium based webbrowser worldwide
which has an adblocker included.

It does not fully support the AdBlockPlus format; it is a loose implementation borrowing from http://fanboy.co.nz/adblock

Hopefully SRware Iron Fork will soon tie into the context menu to take advantage of the built in inspector, whitelisting, and element hiding

If one plans to use Steve Pellegrin’s set of scripts to strip down rick752‘s AdBlockPlus list, The EasyList, originally intended for BFilter, with SRware’s Iron Chromium Fork some adjustments might be needed

Otherwise manually ditch the whitelist, convert ! to # for comments, and dump $ and following per line.

Portable Iron Forkeat the web safely

update.1:  Fanboy now authors an ablock list for Chromium likely in response to this well read SRware forum post (Iron adblock.ini documentation request not yet answered) — this thread has the highest number of views in the English forum.

Similarly minded posts request element hiding capability for Iron’s adblock engine, GUI features (right click / context menu) to control adblocking in Chromium starting with the Iron fork — similarly remarked as possible in a variety of (free) addons for Internet Explorer.  Interestingly only AdBlockPro for IE, seemingly approaching abandonware for lack of updates, offers context menu for blocking (plugin) objects like flash; the firefox implementation in AdBlock Plus relies on irksome object tabs.  Ie7pro could likely offering context menu blocking for flash as it has been suggested in their forums and received well by IEpro developers.  The BEST example of adblocking for IE8 is unfortunately questionableware “simple adblock“: all of the power of AdBlock Plus with fewer ethical restraints.

block flash interstitial ads

add .mochiads.com to your AdBlockPlus filters (ctrl+shift+a, or r-click ADP icon)

I’ve been debating telling the AdBlock list people about this, but the flash developers like to think they have gamers captive.. so I’m sharing my “amazing” discovery with you: NO more in-game interstitial ads.

…. its and ADP feature I’ve been requesting for a while…  extension to have the same ‘power’ as the browser

alternatively:   x.mochiads.com    to use games.mochiads.com   … other fun combinations.
