$69/year is a reasonable cost since the gross reduction of content despite increase of shows.  And then they try to shows ads in the app.

no ads with wordpress.com free

no ads with wordpress or any other site - irresponsible to not-use adblocking locally

you have dignity

you have privacy rights

you have a moral obligation to block third party ads, and tracking

you ought use local adblocking (uBlock Origin) and server DNS filtering with NextDNS.io or similar using DNS over HTTPS or DNS over TLS

When NextDNS begins charging after beta I will be subscribing

Merry Holy Christmas: the end of third party interweb ads forever

I have been keeping this to myself for some time.  Blocking ads.  It is a right by extension from privacy itself derived from dignity — granted by God.

  • reduce data costs
  • speed page load
  • sacrosanct privacy

FDQN.

problem: Sneaky platforms use wildcards or psuedo-random domains.

solution:  RegEx DNSMASQ

IP addresses

problem: seemingly innumerable

solution: netblock

The final solution: ASN

If an IP address is like a house, then ASN is like a plot of land in which neighborhoods of houses may be built.  I can eliminate ads before/as an ad platform builds out sneaky architecture.

bad guy SHORT term solution:  create one-off IP addresses outside know ASN

arms race solution:  by attrition a new ASN is identified and blocked

I win.  I win again.  More winning for everyone.

ad”block” plus-ads forum: Acceptable Ads should be off by default
adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16666

Ask away during installation if we want to turn it on, and explain why we would want it on. But have it off by default. “AdBlock Edge”, an add-on which does just that, is what I replaced ABP with just now. I am just saying, if you want AdBlock Plus to be the first choice for people who like having ads blocked, it should do what it says all the time..

Palant-logic

If we ask users to enable this feature then most of them won’t do it

Unfortunately users won’t make the choice most profitable to Wladimir Palant which is apparently palant-unacceptable. How long until the “opt” out toggle does nothing other than visually toggle?

“acceptable” ads must pay a VIG  (vigorish, charge to show ads)

eyeo.com SHOWS “better” ads THROUGH ad”block” plus-ads:

eyeo.com SHOWS ads so surfers THROUGH adblockplus

all while touting “choice” — the same “choice” you made to “opt” into this feature by installing ad”block” plus-ads

Adblock Plus lets you block all unwanted ads

Unless of course ALL ADS ARE UNWANTED.   At eyeo.com they know you WANT palant-acceptable ads.  How could you not with his stellar integrity of megalomania choice-enforcement?  Eyeo.com claims 80% of ADP users like being bitch-slapped into compliance.

Eyeo.com has the same DEFECTIVE grasp of the English word “free”:  the COST.

PRIVACY RAPE ads are “acceptable” ads:  acceptable rape

The VERY reason to block ads is to NOT allow privacy rape by small set of third party servers.   It is NEVER acceptable to harm others for profit.

Showing third party ads IS NOT a business model.

I am hardcore anti-privacy-rape ergo I block 99.999% of ads with a reasonable tolerance for false positives.  My privacy is NOT a commodity.  What’s more I champion the privacy of the naive.

Google profits by RAPING the privacy of its users and ALL those with whom its users interact.

(no access to bitmap manipulation software to outline image in red)

The checkbox is slightly less obscure than the about:config preference extensions.adblockplus.subscriptions_exceptionscheckbox

JD5000 would be aghast! I miss ComputerCops (CastleCops)

Privacy rape enabled by default?  That is soo unacceptable we need a whole new word to escape understatement.

Fortunately AdBlock Plus continues to be useful for content liberation research.  Still no stand alone XUL loopback proxy?

The tide in the android adblocking game is shifting in favor of privacy.

More elaborate local net filtering it is!  Oh the joy.  After epiphany I shall have some time to tinker.

“blocking ads harms free content”

really?  That tired argument.  It is obviously NOT free if the cost is privacy rape.  I HATE the promotion of android applications under the banner of free and the backhanded slap with adware flavor of malware.  Editing the APK is generally as trivial as blocking net connections.  A little more esoteric to deprive apps of reliable network state information.   The Spirit of Mozilla applied to android..

Blocking ads does not harm ANY free content or free software.  Blocking ads prevents one from being victimized by the heinously irrational defective business model syndrome.

“Respect my privacy”

is the second highest concern to the allow unobtrusive ads model.  Google privacy rape?  Ring any bells?  Take a few moments (or hours if you’re a bit slow) to consider how google profits. How does allowing google ads respect privacy?  (hint: it doesn’t)

Now I’ll get to produce a PDF flyer for distribution to “everyone” how to reclaim the privacy AdBlock Plus supposedly provides.  oh goodie!  Or maybe I’ll get to repackage the extension and distribute it.  Yes, license complaints.  How’d that work out for zottmann?

Allowed adp comment with less eloquent objection but interesting malware analogy.  This is exactly what google android market does: allow “acceptable” malware.

selling != not-selling

If it is free there is no cost.

If there is a cost it is not free.

Yes, Johnny, words have particular meaning. Profound umbrige is taken against abuse of “free” as it is libelous against the thousands of f/OSS developers.

Giving away product and whining that no one purchased it?  What is your definition for insanity?

Don’t want your content in the public sphere?  Don’t place your content in the public sphere!  How challenging is this?  (genius not required)

Do Not track FARCE

until the evils of fine grained Geo IP Location are addressed one would be equally well served creating a do not track post-it note and affixing it to one’s monitor in the hopes of compliance. ISPs need offer privacy conscious users the option to have an IP address issued from a pool NOT related to where one resides/works/exists while surfing.

add .mochiads.com to your AdBlockPlus filters (ctrl+shift+a, or r-click ADP icon)

I’ve been debating telling the AdBlock list people about this, but the flash developers like to think they have gamers captive.. so I’m sharing my “amazing” discovery with you: NO more in-game interstitial ads.

…. its and ADP feature I’ve been requesting for a while…  extension to have the same ‘power’ as the browser

alternatively:   x.mochiads.com    to use games.mochiads.com   … other fun combinations.
