garmin doesn’t understand difference between RAM and storage?

Filed under: Download — Sagacious Himself @ 11:50 am

If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately or bundled together with certain GPS models), you will receive up to 4 map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for 1 compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the map data, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD™/SD™ card (if and as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD/SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. If neither of the measures in (a) or (b) can be used to address your product’s lack of sufficient remaining memory, then Garmin may conclude that the “useful life” of your product has expired. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this agreement or your subscription. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another Garmin product.

realtek RTL8192CU

For low cost client compatibility with Atheros AP we opted for RealTek RTL8192CU.

  • IEEE 802.11b/g/n WLAN Controller with USB 2.0 Interface
  • a MAC, a 2T2R capable baseband, and RF in a single chip
  • as Realtek RTL8192CU-GR
  • ProductID 277

Working backwards from selected chipset we selected a manufacturer least likely to abandon driver development:  TP-Link, TrendNet.  This left less desirable: Belkin, BenQ, D-Link, Edimax, Hawking, Netgear, Rosewill, and the balance from the listed 48.

linux: lsusb

OSX: system_profiler SPUSBDataType

Product ID: 0x8178
Vendor ID: 0x0bda  (Realtek Semiconductor Corp.)
Version:  2.00
Serial Number: 00e04cXXXXXX
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: 802.11n
Location ID: 0xfa200000 / 3
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500

as TP-LINK TL-WN823N   (available only as V1 in support site)

2T2R [mimo 2×2:2]

The MAC address of the tested units seems to be cloned.  Fun.

One flavor of RTL8191SU-GR [ProductID 231] is available as 2X2:2 also in 27 products.

That RTL8192CU vs that RTL8191SU

  • RTL8192CU additionally:  receiver diversity up to two antennas
  • RTL8192CU additionally:  two independent RF blocks, the RTL8192CU can perform fast roaming without link interruption
  • RTL8192CU only:  64-pin QFN
  • RTL8192CU only: IEEE 802.11h TPC, Spectrum Measurement
  • RTL8192CU only: IEEE 802.11k Radio Resource Measurement
  • _peripheral  (it’s not worth fighting wordpress outline ‘features’)
  • CU: general purpose IO pins: 10
  • SU: general purpose IO pins: 8
  • CU: configurable LED pins: 3
  • SU: configurable LED pins: 2

Unique to SU standards

  • Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX4)

eula inanity no paradox pure frippery

Bad, bad paradox

Do you direct connect your internet device to your ISP without a router?

Yes, I did notice the preceding ‘exception’ clause:

“Except for the initial loading of the Software Product on a hard disk or other permanent storage media for archival/backup purposes as provided for above”

That wide and precise inanity disallows installation on an internets-restricted  device via flash sneakernet doesn’t it?

no paradox only inanity button from humble bundle profile

a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.

yay stellarium

I’m still waiting for something that will print charts onto transparencies to be held at arm’s length to map the sky by eye

adsweep, the other adblock for chrome: yet another reminder to download adblocking technology missing from googe browser

Filed under: DARPA,Download,Geeky goodness — Sagacious Himself @ 8:11 am

first:  STOP using chrome.   No, this is not about firefox.  This is about privacy.

Use Chromium… a particular build of Chromium.  Chrome is a build of Chromium; it’s all about the information harvesting.  Iron is a build of Chromium.

Iron Chromium is what you REALLY WANT: , click American flag, software, iron, download, click, wait brief seconds at 144 Mbits/sec, run setup, clickity click, run Iron.  Enjoy the same experience as Chrome without the Faustian hand-off to google.

which itself ironically has banner ads (the site and not the product).

ads mostly gone.  sure, it’s nowhere near as awesome as the tools for Firefox* but it’s certainly MUCH better than the unmaintained, adblock format based on a FanBoy blocklist Iron Chromium offers in its native adblock engine with SRware’s adblock.ini …  AdSweep is a big help … though I am CONFIDENT SRware will patch up their native adblock engine and integrate it with the context menu (for easy right click on ANY ad / annoyance for quick blocking across sessions)

compare Iron Chromium to Chrome Chromium

Iron Chromium portable — the only stable portable version of Chromium

SUBSTANTIAL difference between Iron’s adblock.ini and AdSweepers extension / user script

AdSweep HIDES ads with CSS

adblock.ini BLOCKS ads with pixie dust

AdSweep does NOT enhance your privacy.   While the current incarnation of Firefox and greasemonkey and AdSweep rely on the page completely loading, unlike Chromium, future versions of Greasemonkey alledgedly will be able to act pre-render of the page.  yay!

how to download all the mp3 music you want from project playlist beta

This script allows you to download ALL SONGS on by using a different method than all those other scripts that just use the visible url. Now provides links to download entire playlists!!!
Version: 2.2.1

free signup is *optional* but will allow you to build a favorites list

must use beta search

in results click new “Download song” link.

cost of free: filename is string of numbers

Say for whatever reason you wanted music from MTV toplist

so in a moment of insanity you desire Kanye West “Heartless”

search heartless: 090129-project-playlist-beta-search-to-download-mp3

because you’re still insane you click the first download link instead

if you’ve opted not to install the userscript as directed, or if you’re greasemonkey is disable then no download link for you

if you’re OCD or an iTard: kill yourself. The file contains ID3 tags. You can use foobar to rename the file to your liking

right click file(s)

click the dot dot dot

pick the appropriate naming scheme

click run

click close

repeat as desired

NEVER pay for mp3s.  Pay only for FLAC, audio CD, or audio DVD.  Money must fetch fidelity.  mp3s are only acceptable when free.

* large groups of mp3s are best batch renamed via ID3 with den4b’s ReNamer

the other geeky way to get and install the firefox 2 DOM Inspector extension after installing firefox

first version:

new fun version:

Repackage this debian binary into an XPI to install to firefox 2

(instructions assume Windows XP, but will work for any OS essentially)

download this debian binary:

don’t have debian? don’t worry. you’ll need 7zip
open firefox-dom-inspector_2.0.0.11+0nobinonly-0ubuntu0.6.10_all.deb (or whatever is current) in 7zip

or right-click-drag firefox-dom-inspector_2.0.0.11+0nobinonly-0ubuntu0.6.10_all.deb to 7zFM.exe

drag firefox-dom-inspector_2.0.0.11+0nobinonly-0ubuntu0.6.10_all.deb to 7zip

extract: data.tar.gz

open data.tar.gz to extract the DOM Inspector extension folder

open: data.tar.gz

browse to: .\usr\share\firefox\extensions\

extract the folder:

(for santiy sake check the RDF)

DOM Inspector RDF

yup… that’ll do nicely

using your zip capable archive tool zip the newly extracted folder

(correction: zip contents of the folder)

change the zip extension to xpi

drag the newly created xpi into firefox to install the DOM Inspector extension

or download DOM Inspector for firefox2:

for a slightly less complicated unpack the zip in this directory

unpack: inspector@mozilla.orgzip contents to xpi
